The play “The Tempest“, written by William Shakespeare and performed by the American Drama Group Europe at Schloss Burg in Solingen, Germany on Tuesday the 13th of September 2016, deals with Prospero and his daughter Miranda, who live isolated on an island since Prospero’s title as a king has been taken by his brother, who allied with Prospero’s enemy twelve years ago. A tempest brings Prospero’s enemies and their ship to sink close to the island, so Prospero is able to make things right with them once and for all.
The play in Schloss Burg’s inner courtyard was performed very well. The seven actors played passionately with strong voices, great gestures and synchronous with the background music. The props and costumes were simple but sufficient. The stage decorations were very poor, too few for a Shakespearean play, but that is a minor thing compared to a very great theatrical performance. Be aware of the fact that the play is in English so you will need advanced language skills to slightly understand the native English actors.
